If I recall correctly, I came up here on a brief break I got from the Crisis Action Team in our post-9-11 world. It was cold and drizzly. I don’t remember what I had to do, but I was out in the rain without a proper rain jacket. I did what I needed to do and headed back to San Antonio. By the time I got to the outlet malls in San Marcos, I was nearly in a hypothermic state. I stopped at the outlet mall, went into the Big Dogs store and got sweat pants and a sweatshirt. I changed from my wet clothes into the dry stuff in the truck before driving the rest of the way home to San Antonio.<\/p>\n

Despite the cold, this brief break was so peaceful in our chaotic world. I’m not sure when the ranch became a chore instead of a peaceful retreat, but that’s what it’s become in recent years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
