I had a wonderful if not bizarre airline experience last week. I mentioned the front end gymnastics — dancing, if you will. The actual trip? A dream. I made it to Memphis, walked to the earlier flight, which was thoroughly booked. A co-worker traveling for business got bumped to first class immediately prior to me asking about getting onto the flight via standby. I waited, fully expecting to spend the afternoon in the airport and flying out on my scheduled 7:30 pm flight. I chatted with the co-worker (we don’t work directly together but have been serving on a committee together for the last several months) about the work issues of the day. When boarding was called, I wished her a productive work week. When everyone had boarded, I was the only person besides the two gate workers left in the area. One of them asked if I was getting on, and her co-worker said I was stand by — as I also said I was standing by–literally. She clicked a few keys on the computer, printed a boarding pass, waved it under the scanner, and held it up for me. I thanked her and took it, glancing at the seat number at I entered the jetway. 4D. First class. Woo Hoo! The flight was delayed. Even after I boarded, we waited nearly another hour until we pushed away from the gate. I think I was the only person not unhappy with the situation — I was getting out of Memphis early and would be fortunate enough to have supper with my sweetie. No complaints from me. Plus! I had a spacious first class seat. Ahhhh…..

Had a wonderful, wonderful week. Did lots of work on the house with hubby. Wandered around the New Braunfels Swap Meet (twice), and attended Alamo Heights Night — the only party I go out of my way to attend whenever possible, to include traveling distance to reach. I’m not much of a partier, but I love this gathering. It’s a family-oriented event with an entire area set aside with kid’s games and events. They always have a couple of bands playing music from the fifties to seventies. We live right next to the high school, so we walk over and catch a bus to the party. We get the first bus at 5:15 and leave when the party gets wall-to-wall crowded with people about 8:30. In the middle, we guzzle beer and samplings from local restaurants and charitable organizations. My favorites? Corn on the cob, fajitas with guacamole, chalupas, and Philadelphia Cheesesteaks. The Blue Bell Ice Cream vendor wasn’t there this year — that was a disappointment. I like to top off the evening with a scoop of ice cream. Instead, I settled for a chocolate dipped strawberry this year.

The swap meet is a good place to catch up with people we only see at swap meets. Sadly, one of our friends died a few months ago. We have a few more we haven’t seen in some time due to ill health.

I managed to find a copy of Holly Lisle’s latest, Night Echoes, in the The Quarry Market Borders store. It made great reading on the plane coming back to Alabama. I finished it last night. This is a strange, strange story, but it all wraps up nice and neat in the end. I particularly like the cat.

Still no power supply for the home computer, so I’m still logging on from the laptop at Panera. Once the desktop computer is back on-line, I’ll be doing another BookPack Giveaway. Who would you like to see included? Drop a note in comments, and I’ll consider including them in the BookPack when I’m back on line.

Ahhhhh.
