November is rapidly approaching.\u00a0 Yes, I’ll be participating in National Novel Writing Month (NaNo) again this year.\u00a0 I’ll be doing Fooling Mother Nature<\/em> as a satire.\u00a0 I don’t think I’ve attempted satire before, and I think this story lends itself to it.\u00a0 As usual, I’ll be doing it by the seat of the pants.\u00a0 What comes, comes, and it will probably be pretty ugly.\u00a0 But sometimes, there are beautiful words that get strung together, and that’s always fun.<\/p>\n

Lately, though, I haven’t done a great job of stringing words together.\u00a0 In fact, to use some basketball terms, my words seem to be bricking, air-balling, and generally just clanking off the rim.\u00a0 I think after NaNo, I need to shift my focus to shorter works — flash fiction, short stories, or, even, targeted writing exercises.\u00a0 I feel as is story-telling and craft need some honing.\u00a0 I think that’s best done in a more limited environment than the novel.\u00a0 I can begin and end something, polish it, and carve the words to fit what I want to say in a more complete start to finish mode.<\/p>\n

I’d do my usual NaNo Day to Day update here for November.\u00a0 After that, I’ll be shifting focus — probably for the next year or so to the effort mentioned above.\u00a0 December will be a good time to put together my plan for that.\u00a0 Until then, I will be practicing waxing satirical.<\/p>\n
