After seeing all the dead links in the blog over the last couple of days, I began to wonder if it might be worthwhile to look back on early blog entries and do some pruning.\u00a0 Do any of you ever do that?<\/p>\n
Park of me thinks it’s probably a time sink, but another part of me thinks it makes sense.\u00a0 The blog is a reflection of me.\u00a0 Many of those dead links aren’t worth reviving.\u00a0 In fact, the posts were kind of silly to begin with — throw away stuff really.\u00a0 Clutter. I deleted the bad links for entries like that, but I’ve been wondering if the entries themselves shouldn’t just be deleted, too.<\/p>\n
I have 126 bad links remaining.\u00a0 They are predominantly in three categories.\u00a0 One, what are largely links to good information to a site that’s been redesigned three times since I began blogging.\u00a0 Some of those links are worth tracking down and editing so they work.\u00a0 Two, a mixed bag of links to a site that is currently listed as being “down for maintenance.”\u00a0 I haven’t been to that site in a while, so I’m not sure if that’s a long-term thing, and I should just delete the links, or if the site may be coming back.\u00a0 I suspect I may never be able to find some of the links even if it comes back, because that site owner goes through periods of significant site changes.\u00a0 Those may wind up being deleted.\u00a0 Third are links to news organizations.\u00a0 I’m not sure if the links are worth looking for, but there’s a chance they may have gone to a paid archive or something, and I’d probably delete those, too.<\/p>\n
But I control the content on my site, and I’m wondering if a periodic review might be useful.\u00a0 Is it just me wondering that, or do other people do that from time to time as well?\u00a0 Thoughts?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
