One year ago on March 7, I had PRK surgery performed on my eyes. Over the next week, I had the fuzziest vision of my life and could do little more than listen to TV (was great for following NCAA March Madness). I was one of the fortunate ones and never experienced any pain during this process. Five days after the surgery my eyes hadn’t healed yet, so they put another contact bandage on for the weekend. I was bummed. By Monday, my eyes were healed enough to keep the bandages off, and they were 20\/40. I felt better.<\/p>\n
Over the next few weeks, my vision improved to an uncorrected 20\/20. Due to my age, I still needed reading glasses, but I was able to buy them over-the-counter.<\/p>\n
This morning I had my one-year follow-up exam. My vision has improved to an uncorrected 20\/15 for distance. I was correctable to that before the surgery as well as afterward. Today was the first time I was verified to be able to see that well uncorrected. That’s the good news.<\/p>\n
I’ve been experiencing eye strain on the computer lately. My optometrist apologized and laughed a little bit before giving me the news this morning, she presented me with two options. Two pair of reading glasses. One for the computer and one for reading or bifocals. I laughed and told her I was going to ask her about bifocals. They call them workstation glasses. She said some people would be offended by her laughing about that, but I told her I thought it was hilarious. Besides, if I hadn’t had the PRK, I would be needing trifocals now.<\/p>\n
The best news? She reiterated my eyes are very healthy, and she wouldn’t be able to tell I’d had the surgery if she didn’t know from the paperwork. My workstation bifocals should arrive in about two weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
