one of her favorite places to hang out.\u00a0 But she didn&#8217;t come out again.\u00a0 I checked on her tonight when I put her supper out.\u00a0 She was non-responsive.\u00a0 When I pulled her out, she was limp and cool to the touch.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-13040\" src=\"https:\/\/pmtoo.jeanschara.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/DSC00044-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Millie\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jeanschara.com\/pmtoo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/DSC00044-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jeanschara.com\/pmtoo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/DSC00044-1.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She had matured into a good pup.\u00a0\u00a0 The above pictures were from August, 2011.\u00a0 She adopted us in the summer of 2004 (we think she was almost a year old, so we figure she was born in 2003) while I was deployed to Bahrain.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s how she looked then:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13052 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/pmtoo.jeanschara.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Millie-1-185x300.jpg\" alt=\"Millie, 2004\" width=\"185\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jeanschara.com\/pmtoo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Millie-1-185x300.jpg 185w, https:\/\/jeanschara.com\/pmtoo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Millie-1.jpg 224w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 185px) 100vw, 185px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She came to us with some issues that we never quite figured out.\u00a0 She was timid in a lot of areas.\u00a0 But she was also friendly and liked to be petted and brushed.\u00a0 Over the weekend, I brought her in the house, and we had a short bouncing section of joy at being in the house.\u00a0 She knew she had to use her house manners, but she was a joy to interact with.<\/p>\n<p>She rarely came when she was called, but she would always come to the truck.\u00a0 If Millie got loose, one of us would keep track of where she was going, and the other would get the truck.\u00a0 She would come to the truck, we&#8217;d put her inside, and she&#8217;d get her ride home &#8212; even if it was only across the street.<\/p>\n<p>She loved to run at the ranch.\u00a0 But after she&#8217;d done a few &#8220;laps&#8221; she&#8217;d hang out with us.<\/p>\n<p>We called her the Postal Early Warning System.\u00a0 She would bark when the postman&#8217;s truck pulled up and park across the street.\u00a0 She would bark as he walked through the yard after slipping our mail into the slot.\u00a0 Finally, she would bark once more when he walked back to the truck after he&#8217;d walked around the block.<\/p>\n<p>Since we lost Dazzle, Millie got to spend more time n the house, and she was always very good, which was earning her more house time.\u00a0 In fact, instead of putting her in the garage at night for the last couple of weeks, I&#8217;d been walking her and bringing her in the house for the night.\u00a0 I&#8217;m glad we got more time together before the end, but this death still feels untimely.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time in I can&#8217;t remember how long, we&#8217;re dogless.\u00a0 In fact, I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;ve ever not had a dog.\u00a0 Even with four cats remaining, it feels very, very strange.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"border-radius: 2px;
