{"id":547,"date":"2012-04-15T12:29:41","date_gmt":"2012-04-15T17:29:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jeanschara.com\/?p=547"},"modified":"2012-04-15T12:29:41","modified_gmt":"2012-04-15T17:29:41","slug":"n-is-for-normal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jeanschara.com\/pmtoo\/n-is-for-normal\/","title":{"rendered":"N is for Normal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We think we know what normal is &#8212; some idealized notion of the way life should be.\u00a0 In reality, normal is different for everyone.\u00a0 Normal is what your life is where it&#8217;s at in the moment.<\/p>\n<p>In the mid-80s, &#8220;normal&#8221; for me consisted of coming home from work to a house where the central air conditioning hadn&#8217;t worked since we bought the house, taking an ice pack from the freezer, and laying on my now ex-husband&#8217;s forehead.\u00a0 I went upstairs and changed clothes.\u00a0 When I came back downstairs, he was usually conscious.\u00a0 He&#8217;d had a head injury at work a few months back, and he was hypersensitive to heat.\u00a0 From there, I could assess if I had to try to get him to the emergency room or if he was going to be fine.\u00a0 We were having trouble keeping his medication balanced.\u00a0 That was just one of a myriad of &#8220;normal&#8221; things in my life during the mid 1980s.\u00a0 Were they normal for anyone else?\u00a0 I hope not.\u00a0 But they were normal for me.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, those worst years of my life to date are past, and my life is more in the &#8220;normal&#8221; range these days.
