{"id":5656,"date":"2012-09-10T08:45:50","date_gmt":"2012-09-10T13:45:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/polarbear60.org\/randr\/?p=5656"},"modified":"2019-06-14T09:04:23","modified_gmt":"2019-06-14T14:04:23","slug":"photo-texas-spiny-lizard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jeanschara.com\/pmtoo\/photo-texas-spiny-lizard\/","title":{"rendered":"Photo: Texas Spiny Lizard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have a new pet of sorts &#8212; or, rather, hubby will tell you he does.\u00a0 We&#8217;re reasonably confident it&#8217;s a young <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbase.com:443\/tmurray74\/image\/35835146\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Texas Spiny Lizard<\/a>.\u00a0 Young, because she (we believe it&#8217;s a female) is about half the size of the larger versions we&#8217;ve seen throughout the yard.\u00a0 Over the last couple of weeks, we&#8217;ve seen a slew of young lizards throughout the yard.\u00a0 Why do we think it&#8217;s a she?\u00a0 Males are supposed to have blue lines on their bellies.\u00a0 While we can&#8217;t see her belly, this shot shows a clear view of tan sides on her underside. (Double-click on the picture to open a larger image and a better view)<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-12943\" src=\"https:\/\/pmtoo.jeanschara.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/DSCF0600-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Texas Spiny lizard, right side\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a left side view of the same critter:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-12947\" src=\"https:\/\/pmtoo.jeanschara.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/DSCF0605-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Texas Spiny LIzard, left side\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Why do we say she&#8217;s a &#8220;pet&#8221;?\u00a0 We have tons of these lizards and tons of skinks throughout the yard.\u00a0 They&#8217;re in and around the steps, they&#8217;re in the trees, they run across the driveway constantly, but they all run whenever we approach.\u00a0 This lizard seems curious about us.\u00a0 Hubby was working on a project near the steps, and she just sat out there and watched him work.\u00a0 I can walk up and down the steps (as long as I&#8217;m quiet), and she doesn&#8217;t run.\u00a0 She was sitting on the middle of the step, and hubby walked around the side of the house, and as he approached, she ran toward him to sit on the edge of the step like this.\u00a0 I swear she ran to greet him.\u00a0 Is that far-fetched?\u00a0 Probably.
