It’s a new year, there must be a lot of new projects, right?\u00a0 Not really. I have two writing goals for this year:\u00a0 Finish revisions of Polar Bear on the Loose (which includes finishing the How To Revise Your Novel class) and win National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) in November.<\/p>\n
I’m not a very prolific or even a very regular writer.\u00a0 Truthfully, I’m a sporadic writer.\u00a0 I’ve used NaNoWriMo as a vehicle to produce first drafts.\u00a0 This will be my tenth year competing, and I’ve produced a 50,000 word winner every time.\u00a0 A winner for NaNoWriMo standards but certainly not publishing standards.<\/p>\n
Once I get a handle on the revision process (my primary goal for this year), I’ll be sifting through the drafts for revisable manuscripts.\u00a0 I believe there are a couple worth the effort.<\/p>\n
Another thing I’m doing that isn’t really a project is Morning Pages.\u00a0 Except I don’t always do them in the morning. I do try.\u00a0 The idea is to hand write three pages of the first things that come out of your head.\u00a0 It’s supposed to clear the slate for the day.\u00a0 I tried that for a while, then I shifted to doing them at the 750words.com site, then I brought them back down to my machines and kept them locally.\u00a0 The software I was using was unsatisfactory, so I spent New Year’s Day evaluating a replacement program and have settled on MacJournal.<\/p>\n
Those are my 2013 projects.\u00a0 They don’t look like much, but I suspect they’ll be quite enough.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
