Harri pulled into the parking lot for Klassic Kars, checked her pocket to make sure she had everything she needed, then she stepped out of her 1948 Ford F100 pick up.\u00a0 Her door closed firmly behind her with little effort.<\/p>\n
A youngish salesman popped out of the office and scurried toward her.\u00a0 “What can I show you today?”<\/p>\n
“Nothing, thanks.\u00a0 I need Big Jim.”<\/p>\n
He remained unfazed, “I’m sure I can help you.”<\/p>\n
She brushed him aside.\u00a0 “No. You can’t.\u00a0 My business is with Big Jim.”<\/p>\n
“But..”<\/p>\n
“Big. Jim.”\u00a0 Harri pulled open the door to the former service station converted to used car dealership. The Klassic in the name was more for show than content.\u00a0 She knew Big Jim’s office was in the corner, and he would have already seen her approaching.\u00a0 Not a problem. He didn’t know why she was there.\u00a0 Not yet.<\/p>\n
She made sure the door closed behind her before the salesman could follow her in.\u00a0 Good.\u00a0 Big Jim’s office door was open.\u00a0 She could fix that.\u00a0 Striding across the room, she was in the office before Mr. I’m Sure I Can Help You could step through the door.\u00a0 Once inside, she pulled Big Jim’s door shut behind her and stepped to the chair nearest her in front of his desk and stood.<\/p>\n
Big Jim looked up from his paperwork, surprised.\u00a0 “Whoa!\u00a0 What’s going on?”<\/p>\n
Harri extended her right hand across the desk, “Harriet Peters.\u00a0 I came to discuss some business with you.”<\/p>\n
Big Jim shook her hand and released it, “Big Jim Walther. What do you have in mind?”<\/p>\n
Harri sat down, mentally noting Big Jim hadn’t invited her to.\u00a0 “I’ve been hearing rumors.”<\/p>\n
Big Jim’s only response was a brief raising of his eyebrows.\u00a0 He waited for her to continue.<\/p>\n
“I’ve heard you might be interested in selling out — perhaps to retire or move closer to your mom down in Florida.”<\/p>\n
“Ah.\u00a0 That rumor’s out there, eh?”\u00a0 He didn’t wait for an answer, “There might be some truth to it.\u00a0 Not in a big hurry at this time. Haven’t listed with anyone yet.\u00a0 You interested in listing me?”<\/p>\n
Harri shook her head, “No.\u00a0 I’m not an agent. I am, however, interested in buying.”<\/p>\n
“Really?”<\/p>\n
“Really.”<\/p>\n
Big Jim leaned back in his chair, contemplating Harri sitting in front of him.\u00a0 “You don’t know how much I want to sell for.”<\/p>\n
“I think we can work something out that will be mutually satisfying.”<\/p>\n
“You sound pretty confident.”<\/p>\n
