I like it better than the Kindle Paperwhite (which I passed along to a friend). They claim it’s more resistant to damages from drops than the iPad Mini. As an IOS user, the Android operating system takes a little getting used to. If you’re used to Android, your learning curve will be less (having to only adjust to the Amazon twists).

I like the reading interface better than the Paperwhite’s. I appreciate being able to view my book covers in full color. I’ve taken a few pictures with the camera just to test it out, and it works fine, too.

I downloaded Tetris and have been enjoying that game. The ads became annoying on the iPad version, so I paid the ransom for the ad-free version. So far, on the Kindle, the ads are there but do not interfere with the game.

Speaking of ads, I got the “with special offers” version. What this means is your screen saver is the ad — that’s the only time you notice them. For $20 you can get them removed permanently, but they are not bothersome, so I have left them.

Battery life is about average. One feature I do like on the Kindle is the “nightstand” option on the clock. If you go to sleep with a full battery, it will be depleted unless you use this with the Kindle plugged in to an electrical source. But it’s a nice nightstand clock and alarm.

My mom uses her Kindle Fire as her computer now. She accesses Facebook, reads, and browses the web from it. It’s very capable for that.

The Fire feels heavy (it’s only 3 ounces lighter than my iPad Air 2 and seems to weigh about the same as an iPad Mini). It also feels sturdy. It feels good in my hands, and I’m sure it will be easier to hold after I get my carpal tunnel release next month. Well, after I recover from it.

I have the WiFi version with upgraded memory, but if you want 4G capability, you’ll need to purchase the Fire HDX. For me, WiFi has always been enough, but I can always connect via my phone’s mobile HotSpot, so your needs may vary.

Generally speaking, I’m pleased with my Fire and it’s capabilities. I’ve exploited very little of this machine’s capabilities, but I’m pleased with it. I still prefer my iPad, but the Kindle Fire is a worthy companion.

I picked up a Kindle Fire 7″ HD with WiFi a few months ago.
