Today, I started the real work. The real rewriting. I’m on page 20 of 180. I’ve cut something like fifteen pages, yet I’ve added about 700 words (most of the page cutting came from formatting changes–which may still not be correct). I added a short scene and deleted a different short scene. I need to backtrack somewhere and change a scene to make perfectly clear why Inuit goes to great lengths to never get mad. It’s probably wrong of me, but the one scene where I perhaps should have done that doesn’t work for me. Somewhere earlier in the story, then. I do know it has to be before now, so I’ll be backtracking again. I think it has to be in Winnipeg. But then it will be in her official record and hanging over her for the entire story. I’m leaning to making it before she comes into the zoo system. That way WE will know, but the official zoo records will not. It will be our little secret.
The knee is down to requiring minimal medication–but it still needs some. I’m walking around with one crutch or hobbling on none. I speculated I might try riding the stationary bike today, but I got a resounding “Nooooooooo” from Holly, and hubby suggested perhaps I should be able to walk before I try riding. Fine. I wasn’t *that* serious.
