Alabama
I have an assignment notification, my section commander has signed it, and next week, I’ll have the official assignment briefing where I either accept or decline the assignment. For the record, I see no reason not to accept this assignment. I’ve known about it unofficially for a month. Things can change. I think we’re at the point where they’re not going to say, “Oops, just joking.” But they could.
For those long-term followers of my blog, you may recall I moaned and groaned about a correspondence course I needed to finish. I finished it a year ago. The Air Force would not send me in residence to this course. Instead, I get to go teach it. My assignment is to instructor duty at the Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL.
I figure they saw how many times I failed the course exams when I was taking the correspondence course and said, “Man, we can’t send her in residence. She’ll never get it. Let’s bring her in as an instructor, so she has three years to learn what everyone else learns in one.”
For the record, this is the third time the Air Force has demanded I teach for them in 25 years. (Yes, demanded–this is the first time I’ve remotely indicated I’d be willing to teach; they’ve worn me down, and that was only on good authority that I was going to wind up doing it anyway, although I didn’t know it would be here until last month.) I must do something right. At the conclusion of this assignment, I’ll have spent 13 of my 28 years teaching or supporting education for the Air Force (I wasn’t teaching at Maxwell last time, but I was supporting 8 schools). My graduate degree is in adult education, so I have something to offer them there as well, and a graduate degree is required to teach this course–it’s a accredited program. I was stationed in Montgomery from 1992-1996, and I was pleasantly surprised to find I enjoyed living there. Except for the politics, but it’s a capitol city: What can I expect? It’s also one day’s drive closer to hubby, so that’s a big plus.
Good luck with the new assignment, should you take it. (Do ya think this message will self-destruct in 10 seconds? And do ya think I’m in a weird mood this morning? And do ya think my age is showing? lol )
Hm… I accepted it, but your comment didn’t self-destruct. We’ll have to work on that. 🙂
