Bluetooth
My Tungsten T5 came with Bluetooth capability built-in. Until recently, I’ve been largely Bluetooth agnostic. Then someone at work saw me with the T5 and asked about it. Then he related how he used Bluetooth to synch his work Outlook (a Windows machine) and his home machine (a Mac). He raved about how well it worked and recommended the DLink Bluetooth device because it was built in to the Mac and worked well and also worked well as a USB device on Windows.
I did a little thinking and figured I’d give it a try. I’m already considering a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse combo for my desktop machine. With a Bluetooth USB for my laptop, I’d have multiple hub capabilities.
The DLink USB arrived in the mail earlier this week. Today, I took a few minutes to install it in the laptop and configure it on the T5. The initial HotSync with the laptop just completed, and it worked great.
I have some things I’d like to do with this down the road. Looking forward to seeing how they pan out. I know I can get a Bluetooth keyboard and a mouse for the laptop, but what about a Bluetooth flatscreen monitor? A big one. Now, that would be a setup!
Note: There was the small matter of dealing with an incomplete installation due to XP Service Pack 2; however, the directions on the DLink website for how to correct this “disagreement” between the Windows Bluetooth driver and DLink’s Bluetooth driver were excellent and corrected the problem. Following these instructions before setting up your Bluetooth devices will smooth the process. Failing to do so only required resetting my COM port for the T5 to connect properly again.
Does syncing with Bluetooth work better/faster than syncing with USB? I have no opportunity to try out the Bluetooth on my T5…
I don’t know that it’s better or faster. You can do it with no physcial connection, so it’s convenient. You can be across the room and initiate the HotSync. I’ve only done it a couple of times, and it seemed to be as good and about the same speed.
