A Prairie Home Companion
Sometimes one must go the extra mile to support our deployed troops. The wife of a former co-worker whose gym locker is about six away from mine is on her way to her second (or is it her third?) trip to the Sandbox since Operation Iraqi Freedom began–she and her husband, both civil engineers, have been swapping spots (at least that’s the way it seems–he’s been over at least twice, too). She’s leading a team of convoy escorts (if I understood her correctly), and before she and her team went out to Colorado for pre-deployment training, we chatted in the locker room one morning. She said she and her hubby had several tickets to shows and asked if I knew anything about “A Prairie Home Companion.” I said, “Sure. Don’t listen to it, but I’m familiar with it.” Her hubby was thinking he’d have to forfeit the tickets, but she encouraged him to contact some of their friends–including me–and see if any of us wanted to go. I told her sure, he could call. I thought the show was supposed to be last month, so when I didn’t hear anything, I figured he found someone else to use the ticket. No big deal.
Yesterday, her hubby called. I guess the show comes to town on Saturday, so I’m gonna have to put real clothes on this weekend and actually leave the house. He and I always worked well together back in San Antonio, and I’ve spent a couple holidays at their house since I’ve been here, so it should be a fun evening.
I envy you. We listen to it almost every weekend. It always makes us laugh and the music is great. Have fun! 🙂
Thanks, Linda. It’s kind of a surprise; it’s not something I would have ever considered doing. I think I’ll enjoy the evening.
Too sick to go. 🙁 Had to call and cancel.
