67,528 of 91,173
I haven’t been talking about it much, but work continues on Twilight. I’ve been steadily pruning and have made it to 67,528 out of 91,173 in the document. I got nearly 10,000 words done this morning while waiting for my pre-move inspection (where they come and estimate the packing materials they need to bring when they come on June 9th).
What I have is working, but in my original vision, the effect would have been more Armageddon-like. But the other key factor was that the Geeks work behind the scenes to stop what, to the public, appears to be random events. The team knows they’re being perpetrated by one person or group of persons. If I were effective, the reader would always be wondering when they saw events on the news if those events might be part of a greater terrorist plot. I’m not sure if I’m pulling that off or not. It’s hard to be Armageddon-like when nobody in the world except a few people know there’s a problem. I hope for the reader, this comes through, because they are privy to what the Geeks see–and what the antagonists are doing.
Can it be Armageddon if nobody knows? I think so.
I AM, however, cleaning up a lot of the garbage that found it’s way into the manuscript–and eliminating several things that were funny to me but inappropriate for some poor reader. At this rate, I should be finished with the first pass this weekend. Of course, it’s a 4-day weekend, and I have a lot of preparatory work to get ready for the movers, so we’ll see.
Twilight sounds very interesting. I’m looking forward to reading it.
