Serenade
Normally, I don’t mention my birthday. At 45, it’s really not much of a big deal. Today was mildly different. Hubby called me in the morning (we usually talk in the evening, so a morning call is special–but not unusual on birthdays or anniversaries). I got to work, did my recumbent bike workout (Yes, Carter, the recumbent bike is wonderful–it’s traditional bikes I don’t care for), stopped in the office for a bit and lost track of time. I was about five minutes late to walk across the street to the tennis courts where the office meets to do group PT once a week. They were just finishing jumping jacks (which I have to do a modified version of because of my knees anyway) when I joined the circle. They made a joke about being just in time for push ups, handed me a card, and sang “Happy Birthday” to me. Then we did pushups and the rest of our workout.
Later, a group of us walked over to the Club for lunch together, and one of my officemates bought me lunch. Seven or eight of us going to lunch together isn’t unusual, but it was thoughtful for someone to buy my lunch.
I like my job and the people I work with. Do you know how unusual that is?
Happy Birthday, Jean π I have a year and a couple months on you. Enjoying your job and co-workers is a blessing not to be underestimated. I have an idea how unusual it is, but I’ve got it now, and rarely a day goes by that I don’t tell someone how much I appreciate my guys.
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy Birthday dear Jean,
Happy Birthday to you.
May you have many more,
May you have many more,
may you grow younger always,
may you have many more!
Happy Birthday and Many Blessings!
Happy Birthday π
Happy Birthday!!! August is a huge birthday month. My husband and two of my friends have August birthdays. So does my cousin, my dad and my brother. I’m glad you had a good one. And I think I’m weird. I’m 6 years older than you and I still love birthdays. I figure I can’t stop the aging process so why not embrace and celebrate it? π
What TECH said. You REALLY don’t want to hear me sing.
You really are blessed to have co-workers and a job you love. Enjoy it.
My dad, uncle, and step-daughter all have birthday’s this month, too. In fact, my uncle and I share the day (he’s 14 years older).
Thank you to everyone for your well-wishes. Carter and TECH, I think that counts as a duet for you, right? (Great harmony, Carter)
Linda, I don’t mind the birthdays–you’re right, they come whether you want them or not. If they stop coming, you don’t worry about it anymore. For most holidays and special occasions, I’ve become curmudgeonly, I think.
It’s belated, but Happy Birthday. Glad it was a good one.
