Word of My Brother
Got an email update from my dad. My brother is back in his home in Pascagoula. He returns to work on Tuesday (for cleanup operations, but it’s a paycheck). These two things alone make him more fortunate than many on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The bad news. While there doesn’t appear to be structural damage to his home, nearly everything he owns, including his cars, is unusable due to water damage from the storm surge. (I’m not sure if he took one of his cars with him when he evacuated–I hope so.) He restores old cars as a hobby (and probably sometimes to have a running vehicle, I suspect). He’s also lucky that he has one bed he can use–a twin size Captain’s bed from when I was a kid. This indicates the water in his house probably didn’t get over three feet deep. He’s a tall guy; it must be cramped for him, but at least it’s a dry place to sleep.
Some power is back in the area. He expects to get power back next week. He has very low water pressure and is using bottled water for drinking. I’m trying to find out what he needs most to either mail it to him (assuming mail delivery is resuming) or drive it down there when my commander lifts the off-limits restriction for the Coastal region.
I’m glad your brother is okay.
This is good news. Not the best, but good nonetheless.
I hope he recovers quickly from all the damages.
Best wishes.
That’s good to hear, Jean. I wish him all the best. 🙂
It’s good to hear some good news coming out of that area just now.
