This is Better
Yesterday was a long day, but when I returned from my last guest speaker dinner for work for the foreseeable future, I settled in to write in my journal notebook for an hour. Within minutes, I have to say I was thrilled. Ideas came pouring onto the page. Backstory, characterization, ideas for threads in the middle of the book (where I’ve been stuck) — six handwritten pages worth. The only bad news? I didn’t write any of this in my Threads and Ties notebook. Oh, well. At least I wrote it!
Then, when I couldn’t sleep and I was watching the Denver Nuggets get pounded by the Los Angeles Clippers and knocked out in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, I pulled out the Jeff Herman book and began a more critical analysis of the 15-20 agents/agencies I marked as possible targets for my work. I was able to mark one or two as definite possibilites. Many more were maybes. All need a more thorough study — some to see if they should even be on the list and others to see how they should rank.
All-in-all, the most exciting writing-related experience I’ve had in a long, long time.
