Spam and Crud
I spent the afternoon waging a battle with a SpamBot. For some reason, this particular one found a way around SpamKarma2, and the site was getting hammered with comment spam.
Why was I home during the middle of the week? I’m sick as a dog. Fever, sore and scratchy throat, someone stuffed cotton and gravel in my mouth, coughing spasms. All the cool stuff. It’s so much fun. I think I managed to give it to several people at work before being able to clear my schedule enough to head home this afternoon. And even then, I’m not totally resting. I’m making comments on the 77 papers I was reading last week. Everyone passed, but I need to make comments before I return the papers.
The bright spot? I haven’t been hungry all week. This is unusual for me. I’ve been forcing myself to drink water, because I’m finding several ways to dehydrate myself — thankfully none of them horribly unpleasant (fingers crossed for that NOT to be next).
If I don’t see comments for several days, I may have inadvertently locked you out as I was dealing with the SpamBot (not to be confused with FemBots of Austin Powers fame). If my regular readers would drop a quick “how do” in the comments, then I would rest easier knowing I haven’t unintentionally silenced anyone. (And if you’re just dropping by and are reasonably human, feel free to say, “Howdy” as well.)
Hope you’re feeling better and that you get this comment despite SpamBot 🙂
Yay! One comment works. Thanks, Melly.
I hope you’re feeling better, Jean. {{{{hugs}}}}
I don’t know what it is, but I’ve been slammed with over 500 comment spams since yesterday morning. The Akismet that has been added to WP 2 has caught all but one. Do you not have that turned on?
Feel better!
I can’t turn it on, because I can’t find the key they tell me I need. My WordPress came from WordPress, but my Dashboard doesn’t show what it’s supposed to for that tidbit. Somehow a couple comments wormed their way past SpamKarma2 and earned good Karma, then I couldn’t turn it off. Eventually, I wiped the tables and started fresh. With a little work here and a little work there, I got most everything the way it should have been.
It sounds like you’re miserable. Keep up the fluids and feel better soon. And don’t sneeze on your computer while you read this. I don’t have time to be sick!
I hope you feel better soon. Sickish sucks.
P.S. I agree with the commenter that my Askimet is the bomb as far as spam
Hope you feel better Real Soon. This is not the time of year to be sick in the South.
I also hope you got your sp*m problem under control. SK2 has been doing it for me so far, but the site is new yet. I guess my turn will come soon.
Just activated Akismet. Never could find my API key (even though I’m running the current version of WordPress), so I got a WordPress account, and they emailed me one. We’ll see how it goes.
