Lions and Tigers and Bears. Oh, my!
I got up early this morning to help with the PIE Walk at the Montgomery Zoo. The walk’s purpose was muti-fold. The Partners in Education folks wanted to raise money as well as awareness for their organization. Also, the walk was supposed to be a fun way for families to do something together. The zoo was perfect as a venue. The zoo’s perimeter is just under a mile. The walk was untimed and no prizes were awarded. The idea was to have fun, walk, and see the zoo.
Until today, I haven’t been to Montgomery’s Zoo in years, but it has a reputation for being a solid zoo. After I finished my volunteer shift, I walked through the zoo and was very pleased. I loved the warthogs, wallabees, bengal tiger, rhino (laying in its pool blowing bubbles), elephants, penguins (in with the African exhibit — this type of penguin is found off the southern coast of South Africa), cheetahs, cougars, Canadian lynx, black bears, lions, reptiles, and birds. The zoo is wonderfully maintained, and the animals are look healthy and happy. I talked with one keeper about the various enrichments and enjoyed the opportunity.
Yes, I need to go back with the camera. I took a shot of the black bears with my phone camera . Strangely, they remind me of my cat.
Fun! The black bear I saw did NOT remind me of my cat. Maybe because it was bigger and there were no bars in between? 😛
Do you see any bars in that photo? (Well, unless you count four inch thick plexiglas.) 🙂
Clearly, you haven’t met my cat. She’s lovey dovey one minute and seconds later, she’s drawn blood. The time on the streets three years ago before she went to her foster home must have really affected her.
