Suicidal Spam
Has anyone else noticed a new trend in comment spam? “StenXXXX” makes a comment where the only links are in the identifying data for the post. The body of the comment is some variation of “Life’s not worth living.”
Since I personally scan my Akismet-identified comment spam looking for legit comments before deleting it (especially during BookPack Giveaways), it’s an adjustment. One trigger for comment spam is many, many links. This spam looks more like a real comment. Fortunately, before I approve suspect comments, I check it more closely for other factors that a real person wrote it. “Sten”‘s moping doesn’t pass.
Everybody’s life would be more pleasant if more spammers would contemplate such drastic action. And then take it. I’m not really an advocate of suicide, but then spammers aren’t real people, are they? Nobody could actually be that stupid and live.
So far, I don’t think I’ve had any spam on my blog. Maybe Freewebs filters it for me. I get e-mails from Freewebs telling me when I have new comments. Although sometimes I get e-mails telling me I have comments when I don’t, maybe that’s spam that’s been deleted?
Anyway, it’s sad that the spammers are considering such a thing. I guess they finally figured out that, like the telephone marketer, they are essentially ignored. Poor guys…oh well…
