San Antonio. Finals Bound.
I hear time and time again that the Spurs are boring. Nobody wants to watch the Spurs. They play boring defensive basketball. Guess what? Defensive basketball, played well, results in turnovers and fast-breaks, and quick changes in game tempo. How can that not be exciting?
Fabricio Oberto has been slicing and dicing people under the basket during the entire playoffs for double-doubles all series. How can that not be exciting?
The Spurs have so many weapons, their opponents don’t know who is going to score coming down the floor. Got Duncan covered? Froze TP out of the lane? You’ve blocked Manu out? Guess what? Oberto can hurt you underneath or tip out to Finley, Barry, Horry, or Bowen on the perimeter. They’re always open. Got those guys on the bench? Look out for Elson, Vaughn, Bonner, and Udrih. They will flat-out burn your tail.
For so many teams, knowing which player will take the last shot is known nearly from the beginning of the game. With the Spurs, the only thing anyone knows is that they don’t know.
Exciting. NBA. Basketball. If you can’t figure that out, you ain’t trying. Now, those “old guys” are going to rest up for a few days and study up on their next vict. . er, opponent.
And in 2007-2008? Look out for Utah. With the experience gained this year and next year’s seasoning, they are going to be a force to reckon with. See you in The Finals.
