The Current Amazon Order…
Holly’s publishing quest has me thinking. Work has me thinking. TECH is pressuring me to read quickly (because if I don’t, I know I’ll find some letter out of place in his book, and it’ll be my fault it goes national that way). The thought of writing new words still has me shying away (but I figured out why the other day; now I just have to figure out how to overcome that…). So I may as well read. Or at least, buy books, because Lord knows, I have plenty to read here at the house. In fact, I think hubby’s getting a bit worried about my book buying proclivities. But I could be doing worse things than buying books, thinking, and avoiding writing, couldn’t I? Well, maybe not the avoiding writing part. It’s kinda hard to call myself a writer if I don’t write. Seems like that goes against the definition…but I digress.
Here’s was made it through the Amazon shopping cart wait process to actually get ordered (in no particular order):
- Jar City: A Reykjavik Thriller by Arnaldur Indridason (I spent a year in Iceland twenty years ago, but it’s more than that. Read the description. Look at the cover.)
- Polar Bears Past Bedtime (Magic Tree House 12) by Mary Pope Osborne (Yes, it’s for me. Wanna make something of it?)
- Children at Play: An American History by Howard Chudacoff (I know child’s play means a whole different thing today than when I was a kid. When I saw an article about this in the NY Times this week, I dropped it in the basket.)
- The New Writer’s Handbook 2007: A Practical Anthology of Best Advice for You and Your Career edited by Philip Martin (PBW is in this. I can’t miss it.)
- What Got You Here Won’t Get You There: How Successful People Become Even More Successful by Marshall Goldsmith with Mark Reiter (I met Marshall a year and a half ago. He’s an impressive man, and, as I overcome my most recent bout of cynicism, I want to hear what this man has to say, because he’s absolutely right.)
- Five Minds for the Future by Howard Gardner (talks about the mental abilities that will be required in this century.)
- Small Giants: Companies That Choose to Be Great Instead of Big by Bo Burlingham (I’m not so into big, and Holly recommended this one.)
- The Dip: A Little Book That Teaches You When to Quit (and When to Stick) by Seth Godin (I think I know this, but I want to hear what he has to say about it.)
- Ultimate Survivor, CD by Survivor (I heard “The Search is Over” on the way home from work today, and thought of my hubby. I knew him for a lot of years before he knew the truth of this song — not that he would ever listen to anything this new.)
- All the Right Reasons, CD by Nickelback (PBW raves about this band, but I also have been lulled by “Far Away” when it plays on XM’s The Blend.)
- San Antonio Spurs Adidas Primary Logo T-Shirt (What? You need to ask? It’s for Inuit, of course. We get matching shirts, and people think we’re sisters.)
What has you intrigued these days?
“I could be doing worse things than buying books, thinking, and avoiding writing, couldn’t I?” sounds like me talking!
I’m not sure what it is, but I HAVE to buy books. I’m not much of a shopper in other ways – hubby is the shopper in our family – but when it comes to books, and especially books about writing, I am weak. Or maybe greedy.
I’m trying to curb it because my TBR pile is growing out of control. So, instead, I’ve been adding books of interest to my Wish List on Amazon. Some of my recent additions include The Quantum Zoo, The Marilyn Diaries, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Secret Life Of Bees, The Uses of Enchantment, The First Five Pages: A Writer’s Guide To Staying Out of the Rejection Pile, and The Plot Thickens: 8 Ways to Bring Fiction to Life.
I think you and I should be Amazon stock.
Jean, both of those errors were new ones! Thank you so much! (I tried to email you, but your spam filter said my email was suspect and placed it in your suspect email folder. It said you’d have to add my email address to your accepted list.)
Ooh, I haven’t read most of the books on your list (although I want to read the one with PBW in it, just cause) but I have “All the Right Reasons” by Nickelback. I love their stuff, and that cd is awesome. Hope you enjoy it.
Thanks, TECH. Sorry about the spam filter. I keep forgetting to email from the non-filtered account! I will add you to the good boy list for future emails. I read a little more last night and haven’t found anything new to worry about.
