Galavanting About Texas
Yes, I’m going home for the week and won’t be hanging out here. We’re looking for ’46 Mercury, ’48 Ford, or early 50’s Jeep parts; touching base with the grandkids (and the older “kid” and spouse); and hunting a “new” kitchen sink. I’m not sure if a visit with the younger “kid” is in order for this trip or not.
We think we’ve found a place that should have just what we’re looking for. I’d really like the double drainboard version, but, depending upon its measurements, we may have to go with a single, left-side drainboard version. We have a new French door refrigerator and a 1950’s Kenmore gas range with double oven (one gas and one electric) with a center griddle/rotisserie. This sink is the piece de resistance in completing the work triangle of our kitchen redesign. Finding the right sink is high on our priority list for this trip. Hopefully, it will be in Gonzales.
Why this sink? My paternal grandparents had a sink like this (left drain-board version) in their basement. Hubby’s grandmother had one in her kitchen. (I suspect the one in my grandparent’s basement had been in the kitchen at some point before my time.) Because of these memories, this type of sink has a strong appeal for both of us.
While I’m gone, talk among yourselves about a favorite (antique?) item that has sentimental value to you. I look forward to reading about what’s special to you and why (if you care to share) when I get back. As always, if you’re a new commenter, don’t worry, I’ll validate your comment(s) when I return, and all subsequent comments will post just fine (Well, usually, that’s the way it works. For awhile there, MerylF got on Akismet’s bad side, and I had to perform regular rescue operations, but we got her back.).
Indeedy! I have been properly rescued 🙂 Does that make me a heroine?
My favourite item is an old rocking chair. It’s pretty beaten up and desperately needs a restore, but it’s very comfortable. My mother used to rock me to sleep in it, and I can see why.
Good luck with the sink hunting!
Great timing, with another hurricane in your region. I hope you took your furries with you!
Meryl, I have the rocking chair my mom rocked me to sleep in, too! I rocked my babies to sleep in it, and I know the hubby will be glad to pass it along to whoever has the first grandchild. He has tried on and off to lose it in a move!
I can’t say I have a favorite antique yet, but I do have family heirlooms, like the china cabinet that sat it out dining room my whole life, and the enlarged photo of my grand-grandmother that my great-grandfather took on their first date (she’s fishing in the Kalamazoo River). He framed the photo and gave it to Grandma and Grandpa for their wedding. We also have the sideboard an ancestor of hubby’s made.
Hope you find your sink!
Have a great trip and good luck finding the sink. 🙂
