The Week Ahead
I’ve been doing FlyLady for a little over a month now — we’re back to the Front entry and dining room. I think that’s where I formally began.
Today I de-cluttered most of my kitchen counters. Boy does that feel good. Laundry is still on track. I remember to swish most of the time. I take a few moments to wipe down a surface several times a week. I de-cluttered the master bedroom closet today. I have a significant stack of clothing ready to be donated. I last did that two or three years ago. It’s no trouble at all to whip out the Swiffer duster and run it over walls, doorways, electronics, etc.
Most of my remaining clutter is books and papers (imagine that!). I have computer stuff fairly well corralled, but there is room for refinement. The dining room has rolled around again, and I procrastinated last month on the book and paper clutter in here. I may have to begin addressing it this month. Regular visitors here may recall my dining room is really my office.
Work this week offers a never-ending to-do list, and it all needs immediate attention. I emailed a lot of it home this weekend, and, as is usually the case, I ignored it. I’m ok with that. If I put my mind to it, I’ll get it done at the office this week.
I’m dissatisfied with my health, especially the things I have control over. Tech invited me to join The Great Slim Down as a contributor this week, and I took him up on it. I’ve tried a number of things, and, at the moment, I don’t have a plan, which guarantees I’ll continue to fail. I’ve been inspired by several people, but the two most recent inspirations are Valerie at The GI Way Day by Day and S. William Shaw at Fat Daddy. Steve’s progress has been nothing short of incredible, and he appears to have followed a healthy process. There are a few other people as well, but they haven’t been as vocal about their efforts, so I’ll respect their privacy. My two knee surgeries since 2005 have slowed me down, but I was struggling before then, and I’ve struggled since. I believe it’s mostly mental, and I have to “flip the switch.” Once I do that, I’ve done well in the past. Frankly, 28 years of fighting this have demoralized me, and I have to make the proper attitude adjustment. I do something movement-wise every day. It’s not adequate but it is something. Lack of exercise isn’t what’s truly hurting me. It doesn’t take too much imagination to realize what is. I need to make a plan that will work for me.
Football is well under way. The NBA kicks off training camp tomorrow, and the Spurs appear to be ready to begin the defense of their title.
The work week is packed. At home, I’ll be revising Twilight and tackling office clutter. I’ll also be continuing to work through the book Body Clutter. Yes, it’s related to household FlyLady clutter. It has helped resolve a couple of issues — one of the issues that I believed was keeping me from writing, for instance. If it achieves nothing else, it was worth that — for more than the reason I’m now able to write again. I believe it will help in other areas as well. I’m about half way through it.
I still haven’t figured out what to do for NaNo. Registration opens tomorrow, so I’ll be certain to sign up. I have to decide upon something, because NaNo has become the tool I use to generate first drafts. Without first drafts, there’s nothing to revise. Without something to revise, there are no books to submit. Without books to submit, there are no books to be rejected published. NaNo is a critical part of my writing program.
Finally, I have the GRE scheduled for the end of the month, so I need to begin reviewing for it.
All-in-all, October will be a busy month, but it’s just a warm-up for November.
I’ve considered getting “Body Clutter,” but I haven’t known anyone who’s read it. I’m glad to hear that you think so highly of it. Now I just need to round out my order to $25 for the free shipping. It’s a vicious circle! 🙂
I’ve currently got Body Clutter coming in via Interlibrary Loan. That and Sink Reflections.
Let me know what you think of Sink Reflections. Is it the Control Journal and emails in book form, or is there more to it?
Dunno yet. Interlibrary loans are for the patient. VERY patient.
