Grudging Admissions
My husband decided to get himself a new laptop. His old one eats half the battery while booting, and then he doesn’t have enough juice to watch a movie on an airline flight. We have a DC inverter when we use it as a GPS while we travel. It’s also a luggable size, so it’s a pain to travel with.
He got the laptop in time for Christmas eve, and it came with Windows Vista Ultimate installed. I left him alone to set it up, and he got most things done — he’s having trouble with his DSL connection, and we think it’s going to require a telephone support call to determine why we keep losing our connectivity. I don’t plan to move to Vista with the rest of the world — I’ve decided to shift to MacBook Pro for my next purchase (whenever that may be). Since hubby will now be the Windows expert by default, I picked up a couple of books for him to use.
I did look at the laptop, and I have to admit grudgingly that Windows Vista has a pleasing interface. It also seems to work fairly well. My husband uses his computers far differently than I do, but he chose this laptop to support what he uses a laptop for, and I think he’s chosen well. It’s a Sony Vaio FZ285. We now own four Sony computers — three laptops and a desktop. He’s going to configure the old laptop for the grandkids.
I’m making the same move as you. I moved to Windows Vista on one laptop, and then moved back to XP. The next laptop I get (whenever that may be) is gonna be a Mac also.
My son keeps singing the praises of the Mac, but as far as I know he’s never touched one–lol.
It’s not Vista DH and I are having issues with, it’s Office 2007. What a pain sometimes. I have the advantage that I wasn’t an Office user before I got 2007, but DH was. Some things just make him buggy, me, I don’t know if it’s me or the software being stupid. 🙂
My hubby swears by LotusSmartSuite. I used WordPro to create our holiday letter this year. I have to concur it was very easy to use.
Our laptop is a Sony Vaio and we love it (we’ve had it about 18 months now). Our house was invaded by two MacBooks over the holidays and all the computers got along well. Whew.
My roomie has Vista, and I have XP. XP is much better for productivity. Vista is prettier, but I’m past the age when looks mean more than function.
My hubby is still in mourning over his loss of Lotus. He has to use what the boss wants him to use, but he doesn’t have to like it. LOL
Glad to hear it, Valerie. If only I could say the same for our cats. Natasha still is in standoff mode with the boys. I was hoping she’d ease up on this third year of exposure, but still no sign of a truce.
