The Dragon
I got my copy of Dragon Naturally Speaking. I tried to install it on my laptop. At first it said I didn’t have enough processor speed, but when I plugged a laptop in and at full power it was okay for processor speed. The next obstacle was hard drive space. The laptop didn’t have enough room on the hard drive to install the program. So now, the Dragon is on my desktop. I’m dictating this entry in DragonPad because it isn’t compatible with Firefox — or maybe WordPress.
I did the minimum training session and the minimal tutorial, and this version is working very well with recognizing my voice and getting words right. So far I like the program, but it’s resource-intensive. If you don’t have a powerful computer, you’re likely to experience problems with this program.
My 3 1/2 year old laptop barely meets the requirements for operation. My 2 1/2 year old desktop has a 1.8 GHz processor, so it barely meets the requirements for operation, too. Both of these computers were pretty close to top of the line when I bought them.
When I tried previous versions of this program, I don’t think I would have felt comfortable dictating a post like this is the first thing I did with the program. If you’re thinking about getting it, make sure you have a computer that meets the requirements.
That’s what I’ve found, too. I’ve been dictating morning pages, writing, and some blog posts and have been pretty happy with it. The morning pages were a little problematic on Friday, but that’s because I was speaking too fast and fussing at Ryan, who has been in toddler mode for 36+ hours now.
So, you forgot to tell it to “go to sleep” while you fussed at Ryan, eh? I like that “go to sleep” command.
Sounds really neat. I dunno if I could do that. For some reason, I can’t come up with things off the top of my head if they’re gonna come out of my mouth, only when I’m typing.
