Tree Be Gone, Risk Planning, and Work.
If all goes according to plan, the offending tree should be gone tomorrow. They should also have the roof repaired. Hershey gets to spend the day in the house. He’ll be happy.
I spent the evening pondering potential investment moves I might make with one of my retirement accounts. I decided I didn’t like everything the guy recommended, but I do need to diversify, so I did a little research and will most likely discuss options tomorrow and possibly make some adjustments. I should be able to add risk and safety at the same time, if that makes sense.
In a purely fun vein, I have a small account; I call it my “lotto” fund — back in 1997, I took the money I was spending on Scratch Off Bingo in NYC and began investing it in an aggressive growth account. It’s doing better than scratch off lotto tickets ever did for me, but since it’s “lotto” money, I don’t really worry what happens to it (a useful thing for an aggressive growth strategy). He recommended something much more conservative than I wanted for that account, but I think I found the perfect way to diversify. Right now, the fund is rated as “aggressive.” I found what appears to be a solid fund rated “very aggressive.” I think I’m going to reallocate part of my aggressive fund into the very aggressive realm and live really dangerously.
I have about ten years before I need to reign these accounts in, but the “lotto” fund might be able to go longer — I’ll have to see.
Work is still distracting me from writing, revising, and creativity. At the moment, it’s sucking the life out of me, and I don’t see it letting up soon. MRIs are scheduled on both knees on Friday. I only expect confirmation of the already obvious osteoarthritis. I have two people deploying this week, one person next week, and at least one, probably more, going into the pipeline to head to the Sand Box in the next couple of months. I have lots of processes to get documented and ready to turn over to somebody who hasn’t been identified to replace me yet.
Hey, my dad reminded me last week about what has helped tame his shoulder pain. He takes several gelatin capsules a day, and he says he doesn’t notice too much of a difference when he takes them, but he sure notices when he doesn’t take them. They’re safe unless you’re allergic to Jello and a lot cheaper than glucosamine. His doc says they use it in sports medicine, and Dad’s aunt (a former RN who knows more than her doctors!) confirmed it. Just a thought.
I’m glad that tree is going to be gone and I can quit worrying about you. We had a tree go down in our old house, and I hadn’t thought of it until your story that if that tree had gone down the other way, it would have come into my bedroom. =:o
I love that your lotto fund is doing so well! 🙂
Thanks for the gelatin tip, EJ. I’ll give it a try. It certainly won’t hurt.
FF, the tree is still here. The truck sank into the backyard, so he’s trying another solution either tomorrow or the next day (supposed to have rain tonight, so things may need to dry out. They guy called me tonight to assure me they’ll take care of everything (ruts, etc). So far, I’m impressed with this businessman.
It was dark after I got home, but I think the roof has been repaired.
