Trip Preparation
We got up to light rain this morning. I’m glad we got all the tree branches out yesterday. It sunned up around ten, so I vacuumed the bed of the truck. I have a cap and BedRug on the bed. We’d been hauling dogs, rocks, and firewood in the back, so the rug needed vacuuming. It cleaned up real nice. We even washed the windows to get doggy noseprints off the inside. One option I’m thankful I got with the truck was the removable slider front window. That allows me to clean not only the outside of the cap window but the outside of the back window on the truck as well. As for the BedRug, it’s a lot easier on my decrepit knees when I have to crawl around in the back of the truck.
We’re preparing to head out on a three-week vacation a week from today, so hubby is planning the route as I type. For the last ten years or so, hubby has attended the antique car part swap meet at Hershey, PA. This year, we’re driving up, playing along the way, going to Carlisle, PA, for the car swap meet that week, then sidetripping up to New York for some lanterning exploration before settling into Hershey. We top the trip off with hubby’s annual Lantervention gathering for any of his subscribers available to attend. Lantern collectors from all over gather to discuss their hobby. After that, we’ll play along the route home.
In the past, hubby has flown to PA and rented a car for the time he’s been there. I’m so disgusted with the hassles and discomforts of the airline industry, I proposed driving this year. After due consideration, hubby decided it might be fun. He plans the route on his laptop. He searches for things to do along the way and programs them into his StreetAtlas USA. Then, I drive while he rides in the passenger seat with the laptop plugged into a power inverter and the GPS running. He tells me where to go, and I go there. We started traveling this way several years ago while I was stationed in Virginia, and we’ve enjoyed it ever since.
Lanterning? Lantervention?
Hubby collects barn lanterns. He also writes and publishes a bi-monthly newsletter about lanterns. For the last eight years, when he’s gone to PA for the swap meet, he’s gotten together with some of his subscribers and talked lanterns. They bring parts of their collections, and it’s an enjoyable evening.
