Sunday Musings
In no particular order, here are some of the things I’m thinking about today.
- I’m wondering why I can’t find today’s front page San Antonio Express-News story about Henry Cisneros and his role in the current housing crisis on the website….
- Maybe it won’t get posted until later — wait, I found it in the NY Times (may require free registration to read). In short, the story discussed what Mr. Cisneros did after being ousted as HUD Secretary during the Clinton years. It highlighted that he got himself onto two corporate boards (KB Homes and Countrywide Mortgage) so he could further his efforts initiated during his HUD tenure of making home ownership easier for lower income people. Interesting trail right back to the Democratic Party for the mortgage crisis. Mr. Cisneros has a history of questionable dealings back to the days when he was mayor of San Antonio in the 1980s (and probably before).
- I’ve mentioned my plan to purchase a MacBookPro for my next computer purchase on this page before now. I read a letter to MacGuy today that made me reconsider that idea. The letter only remotely relates to me, except to mention that the MacMini costs $599. That got me to thinking. The MacBookPro I”m looking at will run me about $4000 after I get it configured and accessorized the way I want it. I don’t even know if I’m going to like Mac or Leopard. Maybe I should look at a less expensive experiment before I take the big plunge. I have a wonderful LCD monitor that I’m using on my Wii right now. It would work on both systems just fine. Keyboards and mice are easy to find. Why don’t I pick up a Mac Mini and see how it goes?
- The Spurs who are fighting for a roster spot this year continued to make the decision tough for Coach Pop last night.
- Ohio State football is looking good. I know everyone hates to hear that after their Bowl Championship Series performances for the last two years, but I remain hopeful.
- I’ve checked over the sample ballot and am read to head to the polls to cast my ballot tomorrow when Texas’ Early Voting opens.
- Taking the truck in first thing for its 30K mile service and to have them try to find why there’s a nasty shimmy in the front end — especially when going down West Virginia mountains and brakes need to be applied.
- Looking forward to getting the kids back from the kennel tomorrow. The cats may not speak to us for an hour or so, but I think they’ll forgive us.
- My dad has knee (left) replacement surgery tomorrow morning. I have no reason to believe it won’t go well, but please keep him in your thoughts and/or prayers tomorrow and for the next few weeks while he recovers. I plan to leave Tuesday morning and should be there to help them out by Thursday afternoon.
My son is so sure he’s going to want a Mac for his next computer. I have the sneaking suspicion it’s because he’s heard they’re better for games. He’s got a one-track mind.
I hope it goes well for you dad–have a safe trip!
i think you’ll love a mac mini. I’ve thought many times about getting one for a desktop mac!
Drive safely and Gooooooooo Buckeyes! 😉
Truck brake rotors were fixed under warranty — they seem better. The Apple Store wasn’t in a hurry to sell a Mac Mini when I was in there today (no offers for assistance after a long time wandering around the store — a first), so I take that to mean I wasn’t meant to buy one today. I’ll try again another day.
That Mac Mini sounds really cool. My in-laws 13 month old Vista machine acquired the Blue Screen of Death yesterday; I’ll get them to look at this! (Yes, right after the warranty went off)
I think I’d considered it but ruled it out — until I realized I was thinking about springing for a $4k machine that I didn’t know if I’d like it or not. And for $600 I could get the full working thing and see. I’d eventually need a desktop anyway, and this seemed like a sensible idea.
I tried to find the same article, but it was “missing”. Good news, though, New York Times ran an article in 1999. I have that in .pdf file. Interesting stuff…
