NaNo Day 20: 33,351
Back on track through today. The writing has been uneven to say the least. There is far too much that will get cut out eventually, but much of it is background development. I’m developing an appreciation for preparatory work prior to writing. And the funny thing about that is that I don’t resent it. I actually appreciate the idea of preparing to write.
I attribute that to the effects of the How to Think Sideways course. I don’t believe I’m doing a particularly good job of actually taking the course, but I’m seeing how things fit together and see how certain steps can help my process. I’m finding answers I can apply to my writing struggles. Unfortunately (not really), I still have to do the work, but I can see how applying these lessons will help me achieve my goals to the best of my ability. I suspect it may take more application to get something saleable, but I do believe I’ll get there quicker than without what I’m learning from the course.
It’s getting chillier here in Texas. I took towels and fleece blankets my mom made for the pups out to the garage before tucking the dogs in for the night. The garage floor isn’t too cold yet, but it is getting cooler, and Dazzle isn’t getting any younger. I put a chew bone on each of the blankets, so when they came in from their walk, they were all pretty happy to flop down and chew their bones. Hershey, naturally, wanted to collect them all for himself. When I left, they had been redistributed, but who knows how long that lasted when they were left to negotiate among themselves.
