Flea Market Findings
I found some curious books during our flea market wanderings today. I found three geography books published between 1901 and 1920. While browsing the geography books, I spotted another book, copyrighted 1920,1911 with no discernible publisher. It’s title? Fighting the Traffic in Young Girls or War on the White Slave Trade. At another stop, I found a book on the Cold War, and American History published in 1937, and John Steinbeck’s The Moon is Down.
I guess you can imagine I have some more interesting reading to add to more already mammoth TBR* pile.
*To Be Read
Isn’t it sad that the trade in young girls continues? I wonder when humanity will finally make the punishment so terrible for this crime that no one will dare attempt it.
The book was written by the Chicago DA at the time. His intent was to ensure parents were aware of the dangers. The book is surprisingly graphic (from what I’ve read so far) — keeping in mind when it was written. He seemed to believe if parents and decent people understood the dangers they would be able to protect their daughters– and sons. Sadly, the trade continues, and seems to be surprisingly similar.
Sigh. Missing your posts!
