Closing in On HTRYN, Week 1
The end for this week’s lesson (six-seven, eight weeks into it) is in sight! Less than fifty pages to go.
One thing is recurring — cool as the idea of polar bears the world over using Panasonic ToughBooks to communicate may be, I’ve come to believe it’s not workable for the story. I think it’s too big of an “I Believe” button to ask my readers to push. Which adds the dilemma for me of, “How DOES the Polar Bear Nation communicate?” Telepathy? Scent? Subspace? Do they intercept the US Navy’s Extremely Low Frequency broadcasts? Does anyone have any ideas?
Looks like my intuition for lower frequencies may have been right on: http://www.aip.org/pnu/2008/split/868-2.html?source=rsspnu She even speculates other bear species may not be tuned to hear at this low of a level, which would be ideal for my purposes.
