Contact Form
While wandering around on my Dashboard today, I noticed a “new” Plug-In I could get for the blog. I use a few, but I’m not a Plug-In hound, per se. This one looked interesting though, it’s titled Fast Secure Contact Form. There’s a lot to like in that title, and it incorporates Akismet, WordPress’s spam filter, which works very well. It also allows CAPTCHA, which I do not like and won’t employ unless Akismet doesn’t work well enough on it’s own (I have trouble seeing what letters I’m supposed to input, and I know I’m not alone in that frustration). I don’t have huge traffic here at the blog, and most of my visitors seem to be known to me. I did recently re-enable search engines, so that could change. For now, I’m going to figure I have humans checking in here, and you’re reasonable people.
Why now and why a Contact Form? I’ve always used comments as the sole way to contact me on the blog, and that’s probably been enough. But I’ve wondered if it was. Once I saw this plug-in, I figured it was worth a try to enable another means of contacting me.
It’s not particularly news-worthy unless other WordPress users on self-hosted sites want to add the plug-in. I’ve incorporated a basic implementation, but you can use at least four different forms, and use it to gather a lot of data — there’s a lot more configuration available than I’ve chosen to employ so far. If you’re looking for a robust comment form, this might be the plug-in for you.
