New Spirits: Americans in the Gilded Age, 1865-1900
I just finished reading New Spirits: Americans in the Gilded Age, 1865-1900 by Rebecca Edwards. In a nutshell, I learned nothing we’re experiencing right now in the United States politically or economically is new. The current day problems are eerily similar to the Gilded Age problems.
Naturally, there’s some distress that comes of this, but it’s mildly comforting as well. We’ve been through similar times and survived.
I’ll be studying more in this era – I have a few more books on my To Be Read shelf relating to this subject.
