Camera Instead of iPad2
The more I think about it, the more I think I’m going to upgrade the camera to the FujiFilm F550 EXR instead of buying an iPad2.
I like the iPad2. I like that it has the cameras, that it’s faster, and that it’s sleeker, but now that it’s available, I don’t feel a compelling need to replace the one I have. Like Zette said on Twitter, “why don’t you just get a camera?”
Well, it’s not the same. I have a camera. But I’ve been noticing that camera is looking a little tired lately. It’s six years old. Like one friend said, “That’s like driving a Model T by today’s standards.” (In that analogy, hubby drives a Stanley Steamer (the car, not the carpet cleaners) — I’ve offered to upgrade his 1.5 megapixel camera, but he’s contented with it.)
There are rumors the iPad3 will be a significant upgrade, so why not wait and continue to get more mileage out of my current iPad?
The FujiFilm F550 EXR is the next model up from the one I blogged about yesterday. It has the GPS tagging feature, which I’m not sure is all that critical for what I want to do, but it does have a faster frame rate, which I would like. It costs about $30 more, so that’s not too bad.
Besides, I’ve all but decided to get an iPhone 5 when it’s released this summer, and it will have cameras, and I can load the app I want to use the camera for onto the iPhone and sync it with the iPad to update the data. I think that solution may be more elegant.
Well, we ordered Pantech Crux phones today, so that means (if I understand correctly), 20 months before I can upgrade to a different phone. That means I’m probably looking at an iPhone 6 at the least.
Wondered about that. Sounds like your new phones are fine. Perhaps an iPad 3 instead? 😀 I hope to see 4G or LTE in my neighborhood this year. It is in the big city 25 miles away….
We won’t be seeing 4G in this little place anytime soon. If we were staying in San Antonio, I’d have switched to Sprint for the 4G network a year ago — that looked pretty impressive. The phone isn’t the greatest for voice quality — getting the volume adjusted right has been a challenge. But we haven’t had any dropped calls. We stay in the 3G range at all times. It works in the house. The camera is so-so, mostly because it has no flash-like capability. It works well outside but not so hot inside.
Hubby does want my iPad — he wants try importing sheet music to it and using it instead of paper sheet music. I offered to loan it to him to see if it would work for him, but he doesn’t want that. So, I need to decide if I want to spring for the iPad2 so he can try the music thing or make him wait until the 3 comes out. Doesn’t seem right to make him wait. (But I can hear him cursing about iTunes now…)
