iPad 2 SA Availability
I went back to the Apple Store (North Star Mall) yesterday to see about getting an iPad 2, 64G WiFi model. All they had was a 64G Verizon model. The Apple Store rep suggested the best chance would be to come in Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday between 8:30 and 9:00 am, get in line, and wait for the store to open at 10. He suggested that would be my best chance of getting one.
I have decided to stand in line tomorrow in hopes the store will receive the iPad 2 I desire (I’ve decided color isn’t a big deal, but 64G and WiFi are key). I’m meeting a friend for lunch at 11:30 tomorrow, but that should allow plenty of time to deal with whatever comes at the Apple Store.
I did decide to get the Western Digital My Passport 1 terabyte drive for the Air’s Time Machine back up drive. I also picked up the G-Technology 750 gigabyte drive as a supplemental drive for the Air. Also, I copied my critical files from the Windows machine (including my 230+ CD music collection) to the Iomega 1 terabyte drive that serves as a Time Machine drive for the Mini before shutting that machine down. Since it’s on the Time Machine drive, it isn’t getting backed up. If I copy those files to the 750G drive, I’ll have them available with ease no matter where the Air is, plus, it will get backed up on Time Machine back ups.
I have all the CDs for the music, but it takes many days to feed them all into the drive and get them copied again. I don’t want to do that again unless I have to.
Yes, I know what I said about getting a camera instead of the iPad2. I was wrong. We’ll see how things go tomorrow at the Apple Store.
I hope you are the happy owner of an iPad 2 tomorrow!
I strongly suggest testing your back-up. I used Time Machine but was unable to use it to transfer my photos or personal documents from my old MacBook to my new MacBook Pro. I suspect there was a software problem since I received a free transfer from the Genius Bar.
It works a little differently on iPad. My primary iTunes machine is in Central TX, so it will be a couple of weeks before I can sync. I’m trying to figure out how best to handle that so I don’t lose anything I’ve done down here. I may use the machine only minimally until I get back to Central TX.
With iPad2 you should be able to play on Facetime, which, coincidentally, I have on my iPhone. Wow, what a plotting tool that could be!
Hmmm. I shoved FaceTime to the back page, but that’s a good point. It may be something we could use.
