Ranch Work Day
Hubby had to head back to San Antonio today, but before he went, we had some work to take care of out at the ranch. We loaded up the utility trailer with rocks, gravel, and shredded linoleum and headed out. The road construction has made it up to the 1/4 mile from the entrance of the ranch, so we got stuck waiting at the flag man for about ten minutes before we could get to the gate.
Let me first say that despite minimal rain this year, our hayfield looks gorgeous. Our ranch neighbors are doing everything right with that field, and they will be rewarded with as good a yield as they’re likely to get this year. The grass isn’t real tall — maybe a foot — but it’s a lovely, healthy shade of green. (Driving back from Dallas yesterday, we saw plenty of brown, burnt fields.)
Thankfully, we had no downed trees today, so we were able to empty our buckets of road base material on the tire tracks and head to the house site to drop off some D-Con snacks for our guests in the motorhome and trailer (although, they may have departed the area, because there were no fresh signs of them).
That rain we did have last month must have been a gully washer though, because many of our sticks laid in one particular place had been jumbled up and carried down the road. Hubby had some rocks to lay across the road a little ways up, which he hopes will retain some sand behind them and work to retain roadway during rains like that. We were pleased to see much of our work has enhanced the stability of the road.
Since we had room in the trailer after emptying the buckets, we loaded it with some items we’d been storing in the trailer to bring back to the shop. We’re gradually shifting stuff stored at the ranch to the shop. Some of it will go into the yard sale in August. Some of it will be used in the shop.
Hubby got back in time to load his other trailer to return to San Antonio. He should get there before dark with plenty of time to back the trailer into the driveway while he can still see. He’ll be taking care of some things down there this week.
