Day 12: How I found Out About Blogging and Why
The twelfth day of Thirty Days of Me asks how I found out about blogging and why I decided to start one. The second part of that question is easy. The first part, I have to say I don’t remember the answer. I do know I began blogging in April, 2003. That’s when I set up my Blogger account.
In preparation for writing my first novel, Polar Bear on the Loose, which was going to be in first person point of view, I wanted a place where my character could develop a personality. In April, 2003, the blog, Polar Bear on the Loose, began. Since then, I’ve shifted my primary platform to WordPress, because I decided I wanted more versatility, and WordPress, hosted on my site, has given me that, but I have retained my Blogger account for a variety of reasons. Two primary reasons are my participation in other Blogger blogs and for the purposes of commenting on Blogger blogs.
I don’t even remember for sure when I started blogging, but it was round about when you did. It was far more important as a means of just keeping up on what friends were doing before Yahoo Messenger and Facebook!
Yes, it was a great means of keeping up before we embraced Messenger and Facebook came about. Now, it’s the place you control the message from. The other tools are nice, but the blogging platform (even if it’s hosted by Blogger or WordPress) has a little more freedom to put your message the way you want it put than Facebook, Google+, or some of the other platforms.
