Still Seeking Shrub ID
Over on the Other Blog, I posted a photo challenge of Flowers, and I asked if anyone could identify the shrub. Erin has made a great effort, but I suspect she (and anyone else attempting an ID) was hampered by less than ideal pictures of the shrub and the flowers. So, with sunshine today and the plant rebounding from being drenched and standing proudly, I took a few more shots. I’m going to attempt to implement the slide show feature on the blog today. Here goes:
Is this any more helpful in coming up with an ID? If so, please offer suggestions.
Thanks to Jolene over at Facebook (where most of the comments came on this entry), I THINK this is a spirea bridal wreath plant. If not, I think it’s something close to that.
I have a spirea bridal wreath in my yard in south central Wisconsin and the flowers on your shrub don’t look like what I’m expecting to see in a month or two. I think it might be a mock orange. I googled images and this came up: http://www.unionagway.com/Plants/Mockorange-Detail.htm
What do you think? I didn’t see the FB posts so forgive me if this guess has all ready come and gone.
Actually, the mock orange was the query that got me to looking at the spirea bridal wreath. If it is a mock orange, it’s an unscented variety. It looks closer to the Buckley’s Quill variety in your link.
The key line in the description in your link? “bloom once each spring.” I think that’s it! I guess I’ll go with Mock Orange.
When my bridal wreath blooms I’ll try to take and post a photo with something in it for perspective… (one month almost later.)
