Cats: Feral Updates
I updated my notes on the four ferals last night, and I realized they’ve been in my care for four weeks.
Pretty Boy Foyd, Delta, and Ruby are all socializing pretty well. They are avoiding us less and are easier to catch when we want to catch them. Normally, I wait until three of them self-crate after being out for a while, then I close the crate and catch the fourth — usually Floyd. If I had to say, I’d estimate Floyd is the most adoptable at this point.
Rossie is the shyest of the four. She is spending more time out of the carrier. She’s also lurking more in the shadows when outside of the crate. She’s not anxious to deal with us, but she’s becoming curious. Hubby put his finger through the bars of the crate today, and she leaned forward to sniff instead of running to the carrier. She did the same for me a few minutes later. She wants to play, but she doesn’t want to venture to the center of the room to do so yet. We toss her toys, and she plays.
I’m still finding little patches of the ringworm — mostly on Ruby, so we’re still treating that as we find it. Fur is growing back on the top of Ruby’s head. It was a small patch.
Ruby and Delta are not exactly the same, but I still have trouble telling them apart. Both are bengal-patterned kitties — I call them the Bengal Girls. Delta is five pounds and Ruby is three pounds, so size is a factor, but it’s not as noticeable as you would think.
The three outgoing kittens have learned to leap onto the bed — no small feat since it’s three feet off the floor. I don’t think Rossie has ventured into the bedroom when we had the door open. She is coming into the kitchen now, and that’s a big step forward for Rossie. The fun part about the kittens learning to jump on the bed, is that seems to have coincided with them becoming interesting to Tarzan. After initially being afraid of the kittens, Tarzan will now play with Floyd. From watching the ears, Tarzan is playing, but Floyd gets serious — especially when Tarzan is winning at whatever game they are playing.
I added two old bathroom rugs (freshly washed) to their crate, and all the kitties love lying on them.
