Cats: Potpourri
Daphne has a clean bill of health and has been free run of all areas of the house the other cats have access to. She’s a delightful kitten.
We left her cage up for Lady. When Daphne went for her second kitten shots and her rabies shot, I took Lady with me. You may recall we’re concerned about her aggressive behavior with the other cats, and it seemed like it may partially have been caused by pain. Lady did have a pain response in her mid back area. Once the vet ruled out illness as a cause, she decided it’s back pain, muscular in nature. For treatment, we were to give half a baby aspirin twice a day mixed in with some canned cat food. At the same time, I wanted to limit Lady’s freedom so the cats who have been more intimidated by Lady would feel freer to move above. Lady was more than willing to get into the cage for some canned cat food. The aspirin seemed to provide relief by the next day. Instead of clumping down the stairs, she was able to move more rapidly. She never stopped jumping up on things, but now she was doing it more often. After a couple of days, I still felt a little tightness in her back, but I gave her some basic massage, and that seemed to help. She’s still conducting feline beat-downs, but they don’t seem to have the same intensity. We’re seeing more of Ruby downstairs now. Rossie is still reclusive, and I’m going to keep locking Lady up at night in hopes of seeing progress with Rossie.
Daphne goes back for her third kitten shots in two weeks. I’ll probably take Lady along for a follow-up. For now, Lady’s not getting aspirin, but if I notice her experiencing pain, we’ll try another course.
We’re experiencing a rainy cold snap here in Central Texas. That means Natasha is curled up on a register somewhere. Everyone else is on a cushion somewhere.
Sneaky is wherever she tucks herself away under the house. She comes up to eat and disappears back below.
Amended: Lady went out of her way to attack Rossie tonight, so she’ll be in the cage until we can figure out how to manage her aggression. On a brighter note, Ruby and Daphne were playing tonight. Ruby has been more visible this week with Lady not able to get to her. I think I’ve been seeing more of Delta, too. Now to get Rossie out from under the dresser where she’s taken refuge.
