Cats: Trouble in Paradise
Yes, the trouble that’s bound to appear in a multi-cat household and sometimes even a one cat household has reared it’s ugly head in our home. At least one cat is urinating or spraying where they shouldn’t. We noticed this in San Antonio in December and caught Delta in the act, so she’s the number one suspect, but that doesn’t mean she’s the only one.
We’re trying to determine the scope of the problem — if it just Delta or are there more? Outside of scooping the litter boxes more often, what else might be effective in eliminating this problem? I began the switch to the World’s Best Litter about the time we noticed this, but I suspect it’s coincidental, since there is less odor trapped in the boxes with this litter than the other litter we were using.
On a brighter note, Lady has been allowed two excursions upstairs this week, and her behavior was cautious. As Mr. L said, “It’s as if she were walking on eggshells.” Both times, Rossie emerged from her spot under the dresser, and the second time, Rossie remained in the open while Lady was upstairs. Additionally, Lady left the room Rossie was in on her own volition and explored the upstairs as if it were a new place to her (she hadn’t been up there for a couple of months, so, in a way, it was new). Rossie has not regressed after these encounters. Mr. L and I are cautiously optimistic that this may work out well.
Perhaps just in time for the territorial marking crisis. I think fighting cats might be preferable to this next kitty adventure.
