Cats: Everyone Has UTIs
On Monday, I left the boys in Dr. Val’s care and took the girls to San Antonio with me. Much to the clinic staff’s surprise, all three boys tested positive for urinary tract infections. Floyd’s was different from Tarzan and Ajax, but matched the sample I brought in last week. All the samples have been sent off to the lab for cultures, but the results aren’t back yet (it takes a few days for them to grow). For now, we’re treating everyone with Amoxicillin and will get something more specific if needed next week. We may need to check the girls at some point, but for now, we’re treating the boys. The clinic staff were so surprised, they were afraid their test strips had gone bad, but apparently, the strips turned out to be fine.
Several of the girls seemed lost without their brothers. Daphne in particular seemed subdued.
Ruby is more approachable in San Antonio, but she also cries at the door and window from 2:30 – 4:30 am (is it the neighborhood ferals, oppossums, and raccoons on patrol, or is it something else?).
Everyone likes the garden window in the kitchen, so that was a popular hangout throughout the week.
When I stopped to pick up the boys, Tarzan was still buried in his towel. By the time I took this picture, he’d realized I was there and had poked his head out.
We’re all back together now. I’ll be making trips to San Antonio every other week throughout the summer to water and care for the yard, so a certain feline contingent will be accompanying me each time.
So sorry about the UTI’s, Jean. Hope it can be cleared up quickly.
Us, too, Connie. In a way, this is good news. Medical is easier to deal with than behavioral when it comes to cats. But we don’t want sick kitties, either.
