I is for Illinois
Illinois is a way point on our Grand Tours, but it’s not insignificant. I love passing through the Home of Abraham Lincoln, Springfield, Illinois, on the Texas Eagle. Chicago’s Union Station has a wonderful Metropolitan Lounge where all sleeping car passengers await their escort to the train. We check our luggage, turn our carry on luggage in to be watched while we wander the station, we use the free WiFi, watch TV, enjoy a complimentary beverage and sometimes a snack while we wait to board. So far, it’s our favorite lounge in the Amtrak system. This is important, because for us, all trains go through Chicago.

I’m getting itchy feet reading your posts! Delightful.
I grew up in Michigan and have been through Illinois countless times. Love that state and the rolling hills in the south during spring.
I’ve been through Chicago once on Greyhound bus. It so happened that I came through during morning rush hour on my return trip from Alabama to Washington State. It’s been almost fifteen years since that trip actually.
