MGR Tour: Online Reader Communities
Welcome back to another month of Merry Go Round Blog conversation. This month we’re talking about on line reader communities. I’m afraid I don’t have anything unique to offer over what’s already been talked about. GoodReads and LibraryThing, both sites I participate in on a peripheral level. I’ve been a LibraryThing member for well over ten years. I’ve belonged to GoodReads for less than a year.
GoodReads has a dubious benefit of being able to mine your Amazon purchases to load your library. You can live report where you’re at in the books you’re currently reading. When you review a book on GoodReads, you also review it on Amazon, and vice versa.
One thing I’ve liked about LibraryThing is the Early Reviewer program. Each month, books available for review are posted on the site, and you can sign up to review the book. If you are selected, you get the book for free. All you are asked to do is post a review on LibraryThing.
What other reader communities are you aware of?
