W is for Wendy
I’ve managed to meet my writing friend Wendy several times during our travels. For several years, she lived near St. Louis, and recently, she and her husband moved to Chicago. On this trip, we had expected a six hour layover at Union Station in Chicago while waiting for our next train, so we planned to meet Wendy.
With our change in plans as we approached Chicago, we still met with Wendy. Instead of more mundane topics, she got to experience our adrenaline rush aftermath of making such a massive trip change in a short period of time. Wendy’s a military veteran and a military spouse (retired), so she knows all about rolling with what’s tossed into your path. She graciously gave us a ride to our hotel and said, “Since you’ll be in town tomorrow night, do you want to meet for dinner?” Best idea yet, and a contributing factor to Chicago becoming one of the best parts of our trip.

Chicago’s such a fun city. Except in the dead of winter.

Traveling by train sounds like fun and a different experience on the ground instead of in the air. Enjoy!
