Tech Stuff: iPhone 6S (Plus)
Continuing my thoughts on Apple’s big launch event earlier this month, I’ll comment on the new iPhone. If you bought one last year, unless you’re just a tech hound, I don’t see anything compelling in the new iPhone. If you have an iPhone 4 or 5, this is certainly worth getting. Last year’s model was worth getting, and they didn’t do anything to this year’s model to discourage me. I bought a 128G iPhone 6+, and I intend to get my money’s worth out of it, so that means, as long as it hold up physically and functionally, I’m not planning on looking for a new phone for at least another couple of years.
The notable changes they made to this iPhone iteration was 3D Touch and the cameras. I’m not sure how useful 3D Touch will be, but it’s a pressure sensitive capability that should bring more flexibility to the touch screen. I think I’ll have to experience it before I can really say if that’s going to be a wonderful feature or not. The cameras, on the other hand, I think will be an unqualified improvement. Twelve megapixels for the iSight camera with 4k video capability and a new five megapixel Facetime camera (the selfie camera) all sound very good to me. On the other hand, Live Photos sounds kind of gimmicky to me, but it may be kind of cool.
They’ve enhanced the technical specifications with a faster processor, a stronger glass, a new backplate color, faster TouchID, and other cool things that most users will enjoy. All in all, this sounds like a solid iPhone offering for this year, and if you’re in the market for a new phone, I highly recommend checking it out.
