The outside cats have been giving me some good camera shots. Let’s see if I can find any to share.
Walter is still a gorgeous, majestic kitty.
Sneaky is confident. This is her territory, and she makes sure others know it as needed.
Boomer has been visiting regularly:
And Junior spends a lot of time in front of the camera, but I wanted to illustrate his curved tail, which makes him easy to discern:
It’s hard to believe I had so much trouble telling the difference between Junior, Walter, and Boomer at first or even that it took us several months to realize we had three different cats. Junior is smaller, has a curved tail, and is a lovely consistent shade of gray. Boomer has a fuller face and similar markings to Walter, but he has a more tan undercoat. Walter is majestic and solid with a silvery undercoat.
Boomer is the only cat we haven’t been able to interact with, although I have talked to him while he’s been laying on the the porch. Walter, when he makes an appearance, is equally as interested in being petted as he is in eating Fancy Feast. Junior is motivated only by Fancy Feast, but he’s been more willing for us to pet him lately, so we feel as if we may be making progress with him.
Sneaky is like a pet, and we sometimes board her with the inside cats when we are going to be away. She is sweet and fun to be with. The others are making progress at their own rates. Walter and Sneaky both have been neutered and spayed and are current on their shots. We’re hoping to earn Junior’s trust soon to get that taken care of, and we’re not sure where we are on the timeline for this with Boomer.
Yes, each is slightly different in the looks department. According to these particular photos, they are very different. (Not like our Bridget, who spend two weeks in animal control jail for a crime another cat committed.)
Here’s a question that just popped into my head: Are you gentling the cats so they can be adopted? Is that your reason, or do you just love cats. These two possibilities are not mutually exclusive, of course.

These cats are largely not adoptable. They aren’t that cuddly. The outside cats, I want to get them spayed/neutered so they don’t reproduce, and they need their shots. Essentially, by having a few cats here, they keep others away. That’s the beauty of a feral colony. It brings stability to the neighborhood.
